Interested in helping out Highland Park Elementary School PTSO for the 2024/5 school year?

We will have vacancies in multiple officer positions. 

Positions Available
Co-President- (Two year term) 
Vice- President (One year term)
Secretary (1 year term)
Treasurers (2 vacancies) (2 year term)

Candidates interested in running for an officer position must turn in a Nomination Form to the Board on or before the scheduled April 16th meeting.

  • Forms can be submitted electronically to ptso@hpeptso.org or turned in at the Feb/April General meetings to any Board member 
  • Candidates must be a registered PTSO member in good standing at least 30 days prior to elections (by April 16th) per Section V. Candidates in PTSO Bylaws

All Applications must be acknowledged at the April board meeting by the Executive Board.
  • If more than one person has submitted a form for the same position, a vote will proceed during the May 16th general meeting 
    • Per bylaws, Artivle VI elections
  • PTSO Members (not including GPS employees) must be present at the May general meeting to vote. per Article VII Registration and Dues
    • Per bylaws, Article VII Voting rights: Should a household have more than one general member, only 1 vote per household shall be recognized. 16.01 Roberts Rules of Order. 

Elections take place at the scheduled May 16th general meeting @ noon. 
  • Elected officers shall be elected by secret ballot at the election. 
    • Per bylaws, Article VI Elections, no absentee ballots and members must appear in person to cast a vote.
Elected Officers
President : (Co-President/Co-President) 
Serve as leader and key contact for the PTSO; preside at all PTSO meetings; additional member of most committees; appoint chairpersons for special committees; coordinate the work of the officers and committees so that the PTSO’s objectives can be met.  Maintain master documents, the PTSO Calendar of Events, and coordinate/communicate with the school Principal throughout the year.
Vice President (Co-VP/Co-VP)

 Act as an aide to the President; perform the duties of the President in the absence or inability of that officer to serve, assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Board; help coordinate the general activities of any Special Committees created by the Executive Board.  Ideally –  is willing to serve as President in the future
Secretary :
Keep the minutes of all general meetings and all meeting of the Executive Board; prepare correspondence and perform all other duties assigned; coordinate/run voting procedures (Roberts Rules) during meetings; help recruit committee chairpersons for all vacant standing committees. 
Treasurer : (Co-Treasurer/Co-Treasurer)
Be responsible for and have custody of all funds; make disbursements as properly authorized; bi-monthly meetings (just Treasurers/President) to write and distribute checks/make deposits/get withdrawals for upcoming events; be present at all PTSO events where money will be collected; assure that PTSO policies and best practices are followed with regards to funds; prepare financial reports for each meeting and as needed; prepare the books for an annual audit.

HPE PTSO includes Elected Executive Officers of the Board, committee chairs, and volunteers (parents, students, and staff)

There are two types of meetings during the year:
  • Board Meetings
    • Officers only at least 4x during school year and after the calendar year ends to discuss next year
  • General Meetings
    • Anyone can attend for monthly meetings (no general meetings scheduled for months of December, October and March) 
      • Board Meeting will replace general meetings in this case
    • Committee leads attend to discuss upcoming needs
    • PTSO members can vote as needed but must be present to be valid
      • GPS employees who are also PTSO members votes will not be considered valid per our PTSO Bylaws
Committee openings will be discussed at our May and August meetings.
