What's Next: Shade for Our Students
Every day, Highland Park students spend time outdoors learning, playing, and building friendships. But in Arizona, the heat and sun can make outdoor spaces difficult to enjoy.
Our next community improvement project is to install a permanent shade structure near the playground to provide much-needed protection from the sun during recess, outdoor learning, and school events.
Just like our Park in the Park project, this initiative will only be possible through the generosity of our families, local businesses, and community partners. Together, we can create a safer, more comfortable space for every student.
A Community Success Story
What began as a vision to create a welcoming gathering space has become a place where Highland Park students, families, staff, and the community can connect before and after school, during events, and throughout the year.
Made possible through the generosity of our families, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners, the Park in the Park project transformed an underutilized area into a functional and inviting space featuring:
Permanent shade structures
Lighting and electrical outlets
New concrete gathering space
Built-in seating
Beautiful landscaping and trees
A welcoming entrance for our school community
This project is a testament to what our community can accomplish when we work together. It would not have been possible without the support of our incredible partners, including:
GH2 Architects for donating the conceptual design
Proscape Landscaping for generously donating a portion of the landscaping costs
Concord Construction for donating a portion of the construction costs
Gilbert Public Schools for supporting the project and donating and planting four trees
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, and resources to bring this vision to life. Park in the Park stands as a lasting reminder of what can be accomplished through the support of our community, and we're excited to continue building spaces that benefit Highland Park students for years to come.
